Just another SU with some of the usual upgrades. Only about 120 rounds through it, it's a fun can killer.

I love my Nova.  It's a little heavy when carrying in the woods all day but when I dropped my first deer at 253 yards with 1 shot 2 years ago, it's something I can deal with.

Thought I'd do a glamor shot of my SU-16C. Have a Vortex Strikefire with the low mount, a YHM flash suppressor, and a C-products magazine.

Are those real cans?  If so, how effective is it on the SU16?

I can't imagine they are real as they seem to cover the exposed part of the barrel forward of the gas block. They do look cool though!  Smiley

Jake's Fake Barrel suppressors,  one of the officers I work with is SWAT and uses a MP5 full auto With a suppressor, Makes it less noisy almost whisper but affects speed and accuracy, when he screws on the suppressor shoots low and opens up group size quite a bit, he says he likes it better without the suppressor, cjc

That's what I was thinking, but folks have pulled off pretty surprising things with guns. Wink

Hey everyone, here's a couple pictures of my SU-16, and a list of mods.  First the pictures:

http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab325/secondfirst/ktog/100_6081.jpg
I like this solution, as it breaks down for cleaning or storage instantly and easily, and goes together the same way because I haven't lost the pin, like I would if it weren't tied to the gun.    Grin

http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab325/secondfirst/ktog/100_6082.jpg
I like the CA model's mag storage in the buttstock.  I like the Charlie's folding stock even better.  Problem solved with a foot of Velcro and a rivet; best of both worlds.  Gun balances way nicer with a full 30 rounder back there, too.  It's absolutely secure, although it doesn't really look it...

Love that crosshair.  At night, it shows up black in the glare of whatever I'm lighting up with the LED, and I can see right through it to precisely target.  Great at distance, too, for an iron sight.

http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab325/secondfirst/ktog/100_6087.jpg
The very slight taper of the forend actually centers the spot of the LED _exactly_ where I want it for any possible encounter distance in a house.

http://i876.photobucket.com/albums/ab325/secondfirst/ktog/100_6085.jpg
Switch for light, velcroed on so I can still use the bipod.  When not in use, the velcro mag holder just wraps around the stock.  Went back to the round handle. Looks better, works better.

Rear aperture was huge, so I tapped it, and drilled out a bunch of grub screws to various sizes till I found the sight picture I wanted.  Works great.

Levang comp blows everything forward rather than back or to the sides at your shooting buddies.

Balanced response.  Wink

Other mods to the rifle include:
Sent back to KT mothership early on to hone chamber- helped cure FTE's.
Bill Springfield trigger job- Best mod ever.  Unless you're really into doing this yourself, and really good at trigger work, Bill's your guy.  Super quick turnaround, great guy to deal with, and the trigger is night and day.  From ridiculously bad to quite good.  Perfect for the gun, IMO.
Polished underside of bolt carrier- helped with early FTE's and stovepipes.
Fine sanded/polished bolt, inside of ejector hole (not easy!) and pretty much every metal-on-metal surface I could access.
Replaced extractor, spring and insert with Bushmaster items.  Helped with FTE's.
Polished op rod & gas piston- just because.
Enlarged hole in stock slightly on one side so that mag can be ejected/inserted with stock folded without catching.
Radiused and contoured buttstock grooves- fewer blood blisters in my armpit when shooting in a wifebeater.    Cheesy
Siliconed a few key spare parts inside the forend...  Just in case.

Thinking about more mods, really want one of those Red Lion triggers, may go to a pistol grip if I can find a good folding setup.  But for now, after a fair amount of tinkering and a lot of shooting, this rifle is dead on accurate and totally reliable.

Thanks to everyone on this board for your knowledge and support.  I've read much and posted little, but you guys have really helped me take this rifle from an initially rough and unreliable condition to a place where it runs great, and I trust it with my life.  Plus, it is an absolute blast to shoot.  I won't tell you my group sizes, but I'll just say I'm happy.   Cool
Cheers!

How does that comp work? Is the recoil/gun movement reduction perceptable? How about noise?

Canon6, that's a Ruger rear sight isn't it?  Nice adaptation.  Cool
