Okay...did I just break my new Sub2000?
07/18/07 at 20:28:25

I feel like an idiot...

I own many guns, have for years. Picked up a Sub2k tonight because it looks like a fun gun to shoot.

I purchased it used with no manual.

After cleaning/lubing I was having some trouble putting it back together. My experience with guns says that sometimes hammers need to be down, triggers pulled, etc when dis/reassembling a firearm.

Welp, I pulled the trigger. Fought with it a while longer and finally downloaded a manual. In nice bold red letters it basically says "Hey dumbass! Don't pull the trigger with the gun apart unless you don't want to ever shoot it!"

I thought I could just reset the hammer and everything would be fine. I reset it and there is still part of it blocking the way of the bolt.

Is this a user fixable problem or does it need to go to Kel Tec?

 ??? ??? Help  ??? ???

No you didn't break it.  Yes it is user fixable.  There is a link in here somewhere.

That is good to hear. I'm pretty mechanically inclined, I'll start searching for that link.

Thanks!

I know it involves pushing the hammer back with a wooden dowel.  You kinda got to hold your mouth right and wiggle the bolt to get it past the hammer sometimes.

Fixed it!

It was extremely easy.

Here is a set by step, for anyone else who it happens to:

1. Sit down.

2. Place stock between legs, action facing up at you.

3. Hold barrel with knees (gun is partially open)

4. Hold flashlight with mouth.

5. Insert bolt until it stops.

6. Insert cocking knob.

7. Insert flathead into action, toward hammer.

8. Push down (toward pistol grip) on hammer

9. Push forward on cocking knob.

10. Complete assembly.

Honestly, takes about a half second.

Thanks KTOG!

I think that really is the only mechanical quirk about the SUB-2000. From a shooting perspective, the raised sights and the neck tilt still needed to sight properly because of the straight butt stock is a bit odd, but most people grow accustomed to it. I think it's a small trade off for a neat and reliable lightweight folding carbine.

I'm pretty sure I'm not the only other person that did the same thing. Wooden dowel from the workshop fixed the problem. Reinserting the bolt group seems to get smoother each time I fire/clean the s2k. My subbie will be making another trip to the range today.
Lsa_rla can we have more info on the bolt assembly tool? Thanks.

I designed the bolt assembly tool to ease installation of the bolt group. The tool self aligns when inserted and depresses the hammer. It stays in place. When the bolt is re-installed it ejects the assembly tool. This allows for one finger installation of bolt group, eliminating any possible damage. Prices will be posted on the Trading Post soon.

Thank god for the internet...  Was taking my S2K apart for the first time to clean it before going to the range again tomorrow.  Followed the directions to the T, read up on stuff here first too.  Somehow while cleaning though I accidentally pushed the safety back over.  As I was trying to get the bolt back in and having issues doing it the gun slipped a little and I caught it by the trigger area and POP the hammer slammed open!   Shocked  Quickly came here and did some reading then got a dowel and promptly fixed my mistake.

I look forward to paying a nominal fee to own one of these lsa_rla.   Cheesy
