Yeah, the front sight is coming off sooner or later. I don't have the tools at the moment to do it myself, but I have a good friend who's a top-quality gunsmith that I will call upon to thread the barrel for the compensator when I get it. I doubt removing the old sight will add to the price at all.
I am waiting right now for a pair of rails that I ordered to come in that will be installed per the mod described
here. I will be mounting my
Olight T20 Tactical flashlight to the right side of the new rails via
this Command Arms flashlight mount. It's adjustable 180° left to right (or vice versa), and having 5" or 6" of rail front to back to adjust it will give me lots of flexibility to find just the right "sweet spot" for my sweet little spot! LOL
You can't see it all that well in the pics, but I've got a Beamshot-style red laser mounted on the barrel on the left side. Not sure yet if it will stay on the barrel or move to one of the 4 rails I'll have available. The pressure switch is kind of short and is Velcro'ed to the rail-base of the vertical fore grip right now, which isn't a bad spot, but I'd rather have it attached to the grip itself in the slot provided for it. Not really sure how that will work out with the flashlight pressure switch attached on the opposite side though. Just have to play with it and get my ergonomic groove on!
I will be attaching a sling swivel, or maybe just a stud, on the left rail and I'm also waiting right now for a 3-point Spec Ops Sling 101 to get here. I really wanted a 2-point sling, but I got this one for $10.50 shipped off an obscure eBay auction where the Seller had no idea how to tag his sale for the search engine to find it. The only tag he had on it was "Other!" LOL I get more useful stuff from more clueless Sellers doing obscure searches there! Anyway, if I can't either turn the new sling into a 2-point or comfortably adapt to the 3-point configuration, I'm not really out anything as I know I can get my money back on it and then buy a VTAC or similar.
Then the final mod I'm waiting on is a rail-mounted bipod, which will look great in pictures I imagine, but which I will likely not keep on the rifle all the time. I hardly ever used the stock bipod, but then again, it wasn't the easiest thing to deploy, nor the steadiest platform around. I might find that I just can't live without the new one, but whatever, it's small and lightweight enough to keep in either my rifle case or my BoB.
I'll post some more pics when it's all finished up. Hopefully everything will be here by this weekend. I will have to wait on the front sight/compensator mod, so that ugly thing will still be ruining my pictures! LOL No biggie. It's never been in my way. I use the scope exclusively anyway for regular sighting and shooting, and the laser works just fine for point-and-shoot exercises.
Thanks for the tips. Y'all take care.
