SUB2K Reassembly (Butt Stock)

Is there a trick to getting the Butt Stock back on? The Stock Pin doesn't want to recess far enough to clear the Bolt Tube

With the stock pin pulled as far out as the stop, rotate it slowly about 90 degrees to the right or left (I can't remember which).  This will move the spring loaded detent pin out of the notch cut into the front of the stock pin and it can be completely removed.  Be careful when removing the stock pin because that detent pin is going to want to shoot out of it's hole, and both it and the spring are pretty small.  When reassembling the stock pin put the spring and detent pin in first and use a small screwdriver or punch to hold it on it's hole as you push the stock pin back in.  Use pressure from the stock pin to push the punch out of the way as it rides over the detent pin, then rotate the stock pin so the detent pin lines back up in the notch.

Just a thought, but unless you are replacing the stock, there is no reason to remove it for normal cleaning.

I'd guess he's taking it off to put a bolt tube sleeve on.

I was thinking the butt stock had to come off to get the bolt out. Big mistake! I took the stock pin the rest of the way out and slid the butt stock on. The screwdriver trick almost worked. After contemplating trajectories from a Physics class, I was able to find the plastic dowel behind my couch. Spring was gone. I put the gun back together, then thought, what if the spring went down the bolt tube. It did indeed go down the bolt tube.

Thanks for the info!

Yeah, I did something like that the first time I took it apart.  I didn't find my spring, though.  The stock still stays on, but I haven't shot my Sub yet, so I don't know if I should play the "stupid customer" card and contact KT and ask for replacement spring or just leave it be.

I set my spring aside until I can find a well lit room with no furniture or carpet. It would help if I grew a third arm in the meantime.

It only happens the first time.  After that you understand to hold it all with your hand cupped over it to keep anything from going too far.

 Wink

When you put it back in, if you have a jewelers screwdriver you can use the flat of the screwdriver inserted from the left side of the stock to hold the pin and spring down.  I just prefer to use a 1/8" punch pushing directly down through the hole that the pin is in.  The critical part is too hold the pin down while sliding the larger stock pin in and pushing your tool out of the way with the stock pin as it slides over the detent pin.

If you can climb in an old empty refridgerator box with a halogen floodlight it couldn't hurt things though...   Cheesy

If for some reason you need to remove the butt stock, like installing a Tacticool tube cover, I found it easier to remove the circlip from the pin and slide it out the other way.

Went back in pretty easily also.
