I just wanted to take a moment to quickly discuss my experiences with the Kel Tec PLR-16 over the past year. Currently I work for a PMC doing force protection and am contracted to do diplomatic security. Most of the operators that I work with have purchased our own AR or AK pistols for use when we are in vehicles or when we need to be less conspicuous. While we do give up the select-fire ability of our primary weapons, a short, compact AR pistol is much easier to swing around inside a vehicle and if needed our primaries can be retrieved from the rear cargo area. When I was first looking for my alternative carry I immediately ruled out any AK pistol because I wanted a weapon that could share the M4 mags I was already carrying in my vest. What I was left with was a gambit of AR style pistols that were either too heavy for my liking or too expensive for me at the time. While searching the net I discovered the PLR-16 and began to do some research. After handling one in my local gun store, I decided that I would buy it until I could afford one of the standard AR pistols. After fitting it with the standard fore-end, flash hider and a red dot sight, I took it to our private range at work and began the sighting in/testing process. After 1,000 rounds I was pleasantly surprised with the results. I experienced no failures and while the muzzle report was very high, the PLR-16 handled extremely well. My PLR has now seen about a years worth of duty and it has proved to be great for what I need, so much so that two of my fellow operators have purchased one as well. The only things I have done so far are to add an eye-bolt to allow the use of my blackhawk single point sling (so I can easily switch from my M4 to my PLR) and I've added a fore-grip and a light. As of today I have also had the entire PLR finished in a snakeskin camo which blends well with most of my gear and I am awaiting delivery of a levang linear compensator and a Vltor CASV-EL rail system. I very happy with the PLR and plan to carry it through the end of my current contract and perhaps on to others.
Here are just a couple of pictures.
