Tacticool charging handle cover
11/01/09 at 19:44:10

Anyone had a problem with these?  I just cannot get mine installed.  Do I need to heat it up a bit to get it to stretch enough to go on?  It's only semi-flexible and I can't stretch it enough to get it on.

As silly as it sounds work some spit or something slick over the end of the charging handle.  then start it over sideways using the round lips to help stretch it over.  It will slip over then and you can dry the handle off after.

Thought about WD40 but thought that would then make it impossible to try to pressure it on.  But I'll give it a whirl!  Thanks.

Cut a piece of hose from the garage and tried that, but it was just a touch to much on the ID.  But it actually matches the Tacticool bolt cover better!  Tempting to just superglue that into place.  But it would probably not hold under aggressive use.

Gettin about time to post a few pics of my own S200G17!!  If I can figure out how to go about doing that.

Yeah, it's kind of like "Putting Socks on a Rooster".. Grin...A little heat from a hair dryer might help, it did on mine..

Check out Photobucket, pretty easy to post pic's that way...

I took 2 screwdrivers and inserted them both into the handel cover. I then stretched the charging  handel cover by pulling the screwdriver handels appart. this stretched the charging handel cover just enough to get it onto the charging handel without much effort

I had trouble with mine also so I heated it in the microwave at short increments till it was flexible enough to slip on.  I never got it real hot and it had no slack in it once I got it on and it cooled down.  I also installed the cheek pad from Tacticool, nice product.

Got it.  Combination of hair dryer and screwdrivers.  Thanks guys!  Tacticool should consider revising their install instructions.

it was a little difficult for me at first but it only took like 5 minutes. just start putting it on sideways (holding it perpindicular to the knob) and push it on while twisting. should start going on eventually. then once its actually started going on just push down and twist.

did you get the larger one or the smaller one?

Kel-Tec has changed their SUB-2000 operating handle! I'm always the last to know!

The new operating handle cover has a concave profile for the finger, and the bottom flange is about 1/16" wider. I have one coming from Kel-Tec. It looks like a significant ergonomic improvement. From two instances of feedback I've heard, the 7/8" Operating Handle Cover doesn't fit the new operating handle (part #144), and based on this thread, the 5/8" Operating Handle Cover is difficult to install.

When I get the new operating handle, I'll evaluate the ergonomics. It may be that there is little need for an operating handle cover. It may be plenty comfy as is.

Here's the new operating handle. If you have this, don't order an operating handle cover, at least until further notice.

That's the one I have.  It is a VERY tight fit.  But it's doable.  Wasn't bad actually with both the hairdryer and the screwdrivers.  Darn near impossible without using something though.  Which is why I recc Tacticool revising their instructions.

I do think it's beneficial.  It's a bit more of a cushion than using without it.  Although I think a softer material would be better.

Yup.  That's the one on my Sub2000.  I bought it a few weeks ago, so it must be a new one.  I finally got tired of being nice and just forced the 7/8 cover onto it.  Seems to work fine.  Now if I can just figure out how the hell to get the picatinny rail to work.  The forend will not close up with the rail in place.

Take the forearm completely off the Sub.  Check the edges of the forearm plastic for over mold (flashing).  Lightly sand the inner and outer edges of the forearm where the Pic rail touches it, or trim with an Xacto knife.  Assemble it off the barrel until it will go together.  It is a very tight fit so the rail doesn't wobble around once assembled.  Do not grind or file on the rail itself.  You may remove too much material and then it may well wobble in there.  It will snap into place, and once it goes the 1st time it gets easier each time.

Trust me.   Smiley
