Quote from burley on 11/04/09 at 00:57:18:BTW, I had a pair of these on a Marlin 30-30. Thew them away. Never could get used to the see thru( mostly forgot about it till the time to use it passed). Also had a problem with it not staying solid. RC is on the money again as far as having the scope too high. I don't recommend them on the 30-30 but give em a try on the 22, maybe you will like em

Hmmm...you guys are giving me something to think about. I don't have a whole lot of experience with optics, at all, so the advice is appreciated. The reason I first started thinking about see-throughs on the 30-30 is that my brother in law has them on his (not the type in the above link - his have a weaver base and are mounted to a top rail - my [dad's] Marlin came with a top rail) and I have tried it out a time or two and really liked them. I thought they were pretty comfortable and easy to use, but only shot at paper targets so fast acquisition was not a factor. I don't hunt squirrels, rabbits, etc. so the .22 will be mostly a paper puncher/plinker/low-cost ammo skill maintainer and occasional (very infrequent) varmint gun. Truly, the only reason I want a scope on the .22, at all, is to be able to get more experience using one without breaking the bank on ammo costs.
Based on what you guys have said, though, I think I have decided to use the see-through mounts I have and go with a one-inch tube scope. Being that these mounts will make the scope sit higher, I think I might be better off with a larger area to look through.
