See-through .22 mounts for 3/4 in. tube scope

Anyone know if such things even exist or where I might find some?  I have a Tasco variable power rimfire scope that I got for a pretty good price at a yard sale a few months back and I want to put it on the Winchester 190 I bought last Saturday.  The Winchester has the built-in 3/8 top mount, not a Weaver.  I found one-inch rings that fit well but like the idea of using the smaller scope just to keep the overall package more compact and light.  The Tasco came with regular rings but I want to still be able to use the iron sights for closer targets.

I am considering putting an inexpensive (think sub-$40) one-inch tube .22 scope on it.  That would probably make target acquisition a little quicker/easier but would add more to the bulk of the package.  I'd like to know if there are see-through options for the smaller rings before deciding.

The 3/8" Weaver Tip-Off grooved receiver is the defacto standard for .22 mounts.

I don't know of anyone making 3/4" see-through rings, but I never bothered to look either.

And thats a good thing.

See-Through rings sound good in theory, but in actual practice, not so much.

They invariably place the scope too high, and that keeps you from getting a good cheek-weld on the stock.
Instead, you have to hold your head up on top of your wobbly neck and try to find a place where you can see through the scope.

Putting the scope that high above the bore also changes the trajectory of the .22 to the point hold-over / hold-under becomes the norm at any range besides the exact distance it is sighted in for.

Bottom line is, See-Through rings are a Bad idea all the way around.

The Weaver Tip-Off grooved receiver allows a scope to be taken off and put back on quickly without too much change in zero.
If you don't want the scope for some reason, loosen the clamps and take it off.

Thanks, Burley.  That 'reversible' mount setup looks interesting.  Now that I know such things do exist, I'll have to see if I can find them in a brick and mortar store in my area.  If not, I might order them - although it 'bothers' me that, with shipping, they would cost more than twice as much as I paid for the scope in the first place.

rc, I see your point.  I still like the see-through mounts, though. I actually prefer iron sights, would probably use them most of the time and am not very quick with target acquisition using scopes.  As my eyes age, though, I am starting to see the benefit of having a scope for longer shots - and at 38 I expect such benefit will only increase as the years pass and want to be able to have quick, iron sight shots as well as scoped, longer shots available at the same time.  That being the case, I want to put such a setup on my 30-30 and would like to use the .22 to practice use of that setup with cheaper ammo.

BTW, I had a pair of these on a Marlin 30-30. Thew them away. Never could get used to the see thru( mostly forgot about it till the time to use it passed). Also had a problem with it not staying solid. RC is on the money again as far as having the scope too high. I don't recommend them on the 30-30 but give em a try on the 22, maybe you will like em  undecided

Hmmm...you guys are giving me something to think about.  I don't have a whole lot of experience with optics, at all, so the advice is appreciated.  The reason I first started thinking about see-throughs on the 30-30 is that my brother in law has them on his (not the type in the above link - his have a weaver base and are mounted to a top rail - my [dad's] Marlin came with a top rail) and I have tried it out a time or two and really liked them.  I thought they were pretty comfortable and easy to use, but only shot at paper targets so fast acquisition was not a factor.  I don't hunt squirrels, rabbits, etc. so the .22 will be mostly a paper puncher/plinker/low-cost ammo skill maintainer and occasional (very infrequent) varmint gun.  Truly, the only reason I want a scope on the .22, at all, is to be able to get more experience using one without breaking the bank on ammo costs.

Based on what you guys have said, though, I think I have decided to use the see-through mounts I have and go with a one-inch tube scope.  Being that these mounts will make the scope sit higher, I think I might be better off with a larger area to look through.
