I would guess that PMR-30 = Pistol Magnum Rimfire, 30 rounds.

Can a RMR-30 (Rifle Magnum Rimfire, 30 rounds), or a CMR-30 (Carbine Magnum Rimfire, 30 rounds) be far off?

A bullpup and a bullpup SBR would be awesome. How about a B(ullpup)MR-30 and a BMR-30-SBR?
With, say, an 8" - 10" barrel an ultra-compact bullpup with optical sights and a 30 round mag might make a viable home defense or back-packing weapon.

BTW, I haven't found the mag release yet.

QUESTION:  I know this is a long shot, but will its magazines be interchangeable/compatible at all with the old P30/R31 models and mags?

I'm torn.  On the one hand, I think it is ubercool that there is going to be a viable .22 mag semiauto handgun on the market and thirty rounds in a flush-fit mag is impressive.  On the other hand, I'm trying to think of what I would use a full-sized .22 mag pistol for that would justify the >$400 price tag.  Either way, glad to see that KT is trying new things and I hope it works out for them!

...and a new firearm emerged on the top of my must-buy list!  This WILL end up in my hands!  In fact, I will start saving up 22 WMR rounds today, 50 rounds a week...Wink

Now to taunt my buddy who bought the FiveSeven - I will have 10 more rounds (which I can buy at Wally World) and basically the same ballistics.  For about 1/3rd the cost! Smiley

I agree entirely. The price difference between .22WMR and .22LR is nothing to sneeze at, so to me, it's not going to be a plinker. It is good to see Kel-Tec continue to innovate and bring new products to market, but what exactly is this pistol for? I don't mean to imply that it has no use. I'm honestly asking, what's it for? Hi vis, non-adjustable sights, a tactical rail... Home security, perhaps?

The encapsulated slide is something I have not seen before.

Quote:
The PMR-30 is a light weight, full size pistol chambered for the flat-shooting .22Magnum cartridge (.22WMR). The PMR-30 operates on a unique hybrid
blowback/locked-breech system. This operation system allows for the use of a wide variety of ammunition as it seamlessly adjusts between locked breach and blowback
operation, depending on the pressure of the cartridge. It uses a double stack magazine of a new design that holds 30 rounds and fits completely in the grip of the pistol.
The trigger is a crisp single action with an over-travel stop. The manual safety is a thumb activated ambidextrous safety lever (up for SAFE, down for FIRE). The slide locks back after the last shot and a manual slide lock lever is also provided. The light, crisp trigger pull and fiber optic sights make the PMR-30 ideal for target shooting and hunting small game.

Slide and barrel are 4140 steel, frame is 7075 aluminum. Grip, slide cover, trigger, mag release, and safety levers are glass reinforced Nylon (Zytel), much like other Kel-Tec Pistols. Magazine is Also Zytel and holds 30 rounds, with round count ports. Other features include: dual opposing extractors for reliability, heel magazine release to aid in magazine retention, dovetailed aluminum front sight, Picatinny accessory rail under the barrel, Urethane recoil buffer, captive coaxial recoil springs. The barrel is
fluted for light weight and effective heat dissipation. PMR30 disassembles for cleaning by removal of a single pin.

Expected Availability: Quarter 2, 2010
Expected MSRP: $415
Caliber: .22 Magnum (.22WMR)
Barrel length 4.3”
Length: 7.9”
Height: 5.8”
Grip Width: 1.1”
Max width, across safety levers: 1.3”
Magazine capacity: 30 rounds
Trigger pull: 3.5 to 5 lbs
Weight (no mag): 13.6 oz.
Muzzle Velocity (40 gr): 1230 fps
Made in USA

The mag release is mentioned in the linked PDF press-release. It is in the heal of the grip.

Hardshell:
Because of this, these magazines will not lock into the old grendel guns. Someone theroetically could modify these mags to work in the grendel guns though. Or an extra heal mag release could be added to the Grendel.

Hardshell and PshootR:
a rifle version (RMR-30) is an obvious and likelly successor to this pistol. But I have no further info on if or when it will actually get produced.

JB:
MSRP is only slightly higher than the SUB-2000, so you can expect the actual selling price to be about the same as the SUB2000. I think it goes for about $300 to $350

I think you said what I intended to say except more clearly.  That is pretty much where I was going - I am not criticizing or nay-saying the pistol, I just really can't figure out what purpose it would have (for me.)  I mean, I really like the .22 Mag round but can't figure out what I would do with this platform.  Maybe not 'plinking' but some longer-range target shooting than is possible with a comparable-sized .22LR pistol?  It would seem, to me, that the barrel is too short to allow the .22Mag to develop a lot of its potential but the pistol is too large for caliber to be practical as a carry weapon.

Basically, I think the idea is exciting and I am looking for help justifying why I 'need' this pistol.

I could see it possibly having some use as an HD weapon for the recoil-intolerant.  I guess part of my confusion is that a full-sized pistol with a safety is such a departure for KelTec (I know it is sort of a revival of an old Grendel design but nothing like KelTec is currently doing.)  It seems like a bit of a gamble - but I do hope the gamble pays off.  I wonder if this could lead to other forays into the full-sized pistol market by KelTec.

Now, if this were closer to the size of a PF9 (even if it held fewer rounds) I would be able to tell you exactly what it would be for - a pocket BUG for my weak-side.  In fact, I will hope to see such a thing develop from this in the future.
