Which Glock 9mm?
05/13/10 at 21:22:00

I am ready to purchase my second gun, I now have a P-11 which is great. I really like the way the Glock 19 feels and the magazine capacity. I also like the Glock 26 but would want to put the extended magazine and have the same capacity as the 19. I understand that defeats the 26 main purpose which is to be smaller and concealable. Which model would you experts recommend?

In my area a 26 is $479
and the 19 is $499

Thanks,
Matt

I am also interested in this. My wife took here ccw class a few weeks back and used the instructors G17. She really liked it. But was thinking of something smaller for carry. In particular the G19 or G26.

I looked at the Glock 17 at Gander Mountain and it seemed huge compared to my Kel-Tec P-11. I like the size of the 26 but am not crazy about extended magazine fillers. I like the 15 round capacity of the 19.

If you get the 26, while you may 'always' carry with the extended magazine, you still have the option of going shorter if needed.  I like having my options, but then again, I have both.  lol

Most of the people that I know who carry compact Gl"ucks" carry the short mag in the gun and a larger mag as a spare. Sigs operate the same way.

Matt-

What is the intended use of the gun?  Range?  Carry? Home defense?  Paper weight?

I own a 19, 17, and 26 in 9mm, but carry the 26 more than any of the others (except the 22 I carry on duty).  I can conceal the 26 easily, and for added capacity I use model 19 magazines with a sleeve that lengthens the grip to feel like the 19, without additional barrel/slide lenth to conceal.  I can insert a standard model 26 mag and the pistol fits into the little PDA case I carry it in when I can't wear my shirt untucked for concealment.  I've shot all of them at the range, and the model 26 with the sleeved model 19 magazine shoots as well as any of the others.  With the short model 26 magazine it's a little awkward to hold and shoot at 25 yards, but it still groups well.  There is also a sleeve available for adapting the model 17 mags to a model 26, but I didn't like how long the grip was, and it only added a couple more rounds.

G26 + G19 mag with sleeve = 15+1 capacity, more grip to hold, short slide for easy concealment

I carry a NAA 22 mag. as my main conceal everyday gun. The Glock would be for target practicing and home protection.

Thanks,
Matt

Get the bigger one!  I have a springfield xd in subcompact and my p3at replaced its carry purpose and I am looking for a full size xd for the range.  Just more fun I think.  More accurate, makes more sense to go bigger at the range.

I would go for the 26, like the others have stated you have the option of using the larger mags if you want or the shorter for better concealment if you decide to carry it.

Question, why not use the P11 for a HD weapon and buy a P32 or P3at so you could have a larger caliber carry gun?
 just a idea.

go for the glock 27, get magazines for the g26 and a storm lake conversion barrel.  then you have the ability to shoot 40 s&w or 9mm

all available options with one purchase.

YMMV

If it has to be Glock and it has to be 9mm, then go for the LONG slide G34.

I like my old 2nd Gen G-19 for home defense and the range.  For a combination CC & Range/HD pistol, the G-26 (with both G-26 & G-19 Mags would work.
One thing I've noticed...  Many of the Holders out there that are listed for the P-11 ALSO fit the G-26, so anyone who owns a P-11 wouldn't Have to buy another set of holsters.  Smiley

So... Why did I go XD9-sc instead of G-26?  Personal Fit & Comfort.
(as with the G-26...  Any XD9 Mags will fit the XD9-sc)

Made My Decision

After looking and feeling both guns i decided on the G19. It just felt better in my hands then the g26 did. The gun dealor said he could give it to me for $475 out the door. I will use my Naa and p11 for conceal and the Glock for home and plunking around. Thanks for your input, look forward to shooting new glock.

Good choice IMHO -- very versatile and what I CCW every day (never said I wasn't biased!  Wink).

Now go get the rest of the 9mms, as they all have their own virtues...
