I like the idea of buying the .40 version, getting the conversion barrel and essentially having 2 pistols in 1 body, except that I never shoot, nor wanted to shoot .40 ... But that's just me.
It didn't hit me until now as to why I chose the G-19 over the G-17 so long ago...
When I got my 2nd Gen G-19 (Nov '89), it was the smallest, lightest 9mm on the market and most (if not all) .380s were just as large as the G-19 and most were heavier. The G-19 was my CC gun back then.
(Man... How Pistols have changed!!)
Heck... Back then, they weren't even doing the rear sight swap-outs after importing. Mine still has the adjustable "Competition" sights on it. I thought about swapping them out, but now, it makes it more of a "collectible".
Having never had a malfunction with my G-19, I was 95% set on getting a G-26 for CC... Until I shot it along side the XD9SC. Both shot equally accurate, with equal (to me) recoil, but the XD simply shot for comfortably in my hand.
In the 4" category, I can shoot my Wife's XD9 Service just as easily as my G-19, but in 4", my G-19 feels more comfortable to shoot that the XD9 Service. Go Figure.
As to the Grip Safety... I can see where they might cut down on "Glock Leg" incidents, especially if a person were to use their thumb to press down on the back of the slide, rather than the back strap, during holstering. If you want a secondary safety besides the trigger safety, I definitely prefer a grip safety over a manual safety.
