I wondered about that too, so I bought one to see what I could see. Here's what I see so far...
* steel mags have body material that is about 0.035" thick
* PMAG body material is about 0.090" thick
* steel mags are about 0.995" wide - fits just right in my RFB
* PMAG mags are about 1.065" wide - too big for my RFB
* not as bad of a mismatch on mag length, but still too big for my RFB
So, besides not having the catch in the right place - the PMAG has material that is too thick to make it work. My guess is that Magpul felt that thinning down their material enough to make it fit would also make it too weak. The only other option - casting the mag thinner - would cause constant stress on the mag body by the bullets being a bit askew when loaded.
Conclusion: We will indeed never see a PMAG for the RFB because of fundametal material strength limitations. I suppose you could try to wait for a carbon fiber version to appear, but I'm not.
I already have this one, so I'll tinker with it some just to see what happens. Got the perfect tool for the job too - a belt sander! Would be nice to make it work somehow - the PMAG looks great squeezed up into the RFB.
