Rail and VFG

I just got my RFB and love it, but I'd like to attach a small rail underneath the front of the handguard so I can mount a vertical foregrip. Anybody have any ideas?

Kel Tec has one for sale in their online store for $40, but for some reason has not put up a picture of the thing for almost two months now.

Thanks for the quick reply! I ordered one and I'll see if I can get some pictures up on the site for everyone else when it comes in!

I use the Kel-Tec rail and I love it. Very well made and mounts solid under the hand guard. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to mount a forward grip.

I'm not comfortable (or as accurate) with my forward hand that far rearward. I'm holding out somewhat impatiently for the accessory thread mounted quad rail to mount one of the Magpul angled grips on.

I can understand that. I'm just use to gripping my AR mag well so it feels more natural to me to have my hand closer in.

Any ETA on the quad rail?

WilkVM, just a FYI but you cant slide stuff on and off the KelTec handgrip rail, the lip on the end of the handguard will get in the way; it was also designed to be a semi-permanent installation. Bobro Engineering and LaRue Tactical both make QD grips in short and long sizes which will allow you to move it around or take it off without removing the rail. The Bobro twists on, the LaRue is a lever mount. I have the Bobro, and didnt know abou the LaRue at the time of purchase, in retrospect I should have gone with the LaRue since it comes with all the parts to convert it to short or long and the twist on mount of the Bobro is a bit awkward. The Bobro is $80, the LaRue is $100.

Not that I know of, I asked about the bayonet mount earlier this year and was told late this year if thats any help; I would assume the quad rail would be a higher priority. If you can find a 1 1/4" to 1 1/8" thread reduction bushing you could mount the mini YHM AR-15 free float railed handguard. If you know of anyone at a machine shop who could make them im sure you could sell them too, i know i'd buy one untill KelTec releases theirs.

Barrel mount rails are a simple and inexpensive option. Here's a pic of a stubby VFG on mine - have since replaced it with a long grip type QD VFG...

It's simular - actually it is this one ($15)...

A 3-slot would most likely fit, but I got the shorter 2-slot to allow attaching the QD bipod to the barrel - in front of the tri-rail. If you don't have a need for the laser clamp on top, you can replace it with a rail instead for something like a front iron site. Just shim the top rail height as needed to level the top rail with the RFB's main rail. An even better option is to drill that top bracket in the center, and replace the RFB's 10 inch rail with a 14 inch rail - bolted in the 2 original spots plus this top bracket. That would look more streamlined and give you more top rail.

Even with the extended VFG on there, it has stayed put - in spite of over 200 rounds with regular use, plus DAILY use for transport/fondling/etc. I know because the laser site on top hasn't changed position relative to the scope's cross-hairs. Here's what I did to help in that respect...
1. cleaned barrel and touching surfaces of rail with acetone
2. added blue locktite to the 4 clamping screw threads to allow maximum torque (the locktite lubes the threads while tightening down - allowing greater clamping force)
3. tighten all 4 screws very evenly - like you do a scope. first, so all 4 corners are touching the barrel, then all 4 light finger tight, then 1/4 turn each all around - repeat.
4. used maximum length screws and torqued them down as hard as possible. the tri-rail comes with several different screw lengths for all 8 screws.

Its good to have some pics of how the rail looks, having a foregrip or bipod would be a nice feature to add to this gun.
